Active Citizenship and Civic Leadership

Helping members build their civic leadership skills is a priority for the Citizens League -- developing leaders who govern for the common good is a key part of our mission. Given the unique non-partisan, citizen-based and multi-issue position of the Citizens League, civic leadership building is also one of our great opportunities.

Developing civic capacity needs to be a part of everything we do: from casual gatherings such as our Policy and a Pint series, to public policy development, to structured classes that help people be part of an ongoing civic base.

The Citizens League partners with the Minnesota Active Citizenship Initiative and Civics Connection on our active citizenship work.

Projects

Active Citizenship Course -- coming soon!

The Citizens League is working to build new opportunities for participants to build their civic capacity and to improve the opportunities that already exist. In 2009, we will be starting informal Active Citizenship Workshops and an in-depth Civic Policy Leadership Course. Click here to read more.

Action Groups

The Action Groups are self-led projects organized by young Citizens League members. Last year's projects focused on public leadership and the environment. A leadership team is currently working to plan the next round, to begin in early 2009. Find out more about the action groups and how to get involved.

Public Policy

The Citizens League's policy work is all citizen-based. Click here to read more about the projects that are going on right now.
